What is Dermal Filler and how does it work?

Dermal fillers are a cosmetic procedure involving the injection of Hyaluronic acid into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar based product found in the human body. It is a water loving molecule which works by penetrating the skin and holding on to water, it is this process which allows the skin to better retain moisture and therefore creates a fuller, more rejuvenated looking skin.

When will i see the effects of dermal filler?

Immediately!

How long do dermal fillers last?

The Juvederm ULTRA range we use here at Kerry-Ann Aesthetics tends to last between 6-9 months, however the amount of time a filler lasts can vary from person to person and can be effected by things such as metabolism, dehydration, stress and many more.

Does it hurt?

The procedure itself is a little uncomfortable however, the products we use contain a local anaesthetic called lidocaine which helps to numb the area as the procedure is carried out, we also numb the area before injection with a topical numbing cream. This makes the procedure more comfortable.

Whats the difference between Dermal filler and Botox?

The primary difference between the two is that Botox reduces the activity of muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. Facial fillers, however, fill the trouble areas with hyaluronic acid, a product which helps the tissues hold onto water within the skin thus creating fuller more plump skin for that youthful appearance.

Where does dermal filler go after my results fade?

The gel is broken down naturally and reabsorbed by the skin. Skin would be restored to how it was pre procedure.

Are there any side effects after having dermal fillers

Most possible side effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: redness, minor swelling, itching, tenderness around injection site and potential lumps in the treated area. These are all normal side effects and resolve naturally over a period of 1-2 weeks after your treatment.

Who should avoid dermal fillers

Women who are pregnant and/or breast-feeding, people with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis.

How do i know how much dermal filler to have?

If you are unsure on the amount of dermal filler needed, this is an area that would be discussed with Kerry-Ann upon consultation and identifying your treatment goals.

How long will my treatment take?

The procedure itself only takes 10-15 minutes depending on the tretment area, however we allow 30 minute appointment slots to ensure a thourough consultation.

Will i get lumps?

Lumps can sometimes happen with dermal fillers. Kerry-Ann always gives the area a good massage post treatment to avoid lumps from forming. If you feel any lumps or bumps in the area after 2 weeks, a simple massage can help get rid of these, however if your concerned always let your practitioner know and they will advise accordingly.

What happens if im unhappy with my results?

A thourough consultation will always take place prior to your treatment to ensure you are fully aware of what your results might look like afterwards, and your practitioner will always tailor the treatment to the clients requests providing only realistic results. If you decide you dont like the results, filler can be dissolved.

I want my filler dissolved.

If you want your filler dissolved this would involve Kerry-Ann setting up an appointment for you with her nurse prescriber for a consultation. The product used to dissolve filler is called Hyaluronidase and needs to be prescribed. Once this is done, Kerry-Ann will reschdule another appointment with your to carry out the procedure. A patch test is done first on your arm to check for sensitivities.
